Tensions at Manhattan Immigration Court: Multiple Detained Immediately After Hearing, Lawyers Claim ’30-Day Reset’

June 2 2025 MANHATTAN, NEW YORK – Multiple individuals were detained by plain clothed officers immediately after leaving their hearing at Manhattan’s Ted Weiss Federal Building.

Two of individual’s lawyers argued that standard procedure—a “30-day reset” period typically granted after a case dismissal, giving individuals time to voluntarily depart or resolve their immigration status—was disregarded as men were led away.

The Trump administration has intensified its immigration enforcement initiatives, unveiling a series of policies aimed at increasing deportations and tightening border security.

In a recent move, White House advisor Stephen Miller urged Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) to escalate daily arrests of undocumented immigrants to 3,000, a substantial increase from the previous target of 1,800 per day.  This push aligns with President Trump’s objective to execute the largest deportation operation in U.S. history, aiming to remove approximately 650,000 individuals by the end of the year.

President Trump has launched “Project Homecoming,” a program designed to encourage voluntary departure of undocumented immigrants.  The initiative offers financial incentives and government-funded flights to those who agree to leave the country, while imposing strict enforcement measures on those who do not comply.
