Police Shoot Armed Suspect After Gunfire Breaks Out on Upper East Side Manhattan
November 13, 2025 MANHATTAN, New York – NYPD officers fatally shoot 20-year-old man who allegedly threatened to “shoot up” Mt Sinai hospital on the Upper East Side Thursday evening, authorities said.
According to police, the incident began around 7:20 p.m. when officers from the 19th Precinct responded to multiple 911 calls about a man pointing a gun at people near Madison Avenue between East 95th and East 96th Streets.
Callers also reported the man threatening customers inside a nearby store. Store clerk reported the armed individual to 911 after he made comments that he was going to shoot up the hospital nearby.
Officers canvassing the area located a man matching the description near E 95th Street & Madison Avenue. As they approached, officials say the suspected gunman displayed a firearm and fired one shot first toward officers. Police returned fire, striking him several times.
After the shooting, officers placed the wounded man into a marked police vehicle and transported him to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he remained in critical condition until he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead.
No officers were hurt, though they were taken to an area hospital to be medically evaluated.
Several nearby residents reported hearing multiple gunshots during the exchange and ducking for cover. A father and son give us their account of the ordeal.
