Elderly Resident Found Dead After House Fire in Auburndale Queens

November 13 2025 Auburndale, Queens — Fire crews discovered one person dead inside a second-floor bedroom after a house fire Thursday night, according to the FDNY.

The fire started shortly before 8 p.m. at a home on 194th Street between 48th and 50th Avenues. Crews say the fire was coming from the second floor when they arrived.

Roughly a dozen units and about 60 firefighters and EMS personnel responded. Officials said crews had to force entry through the front door and push through heavy clutter to reach the inside of the home.

Firefighters made it upstairs and knocked down the fire just before 9 p.m. During their search, they found an elderly resident dead in a second-floor bedroom. Officials said the person lived alone.

One firefighter sustained minor injuries.
