NYPD Patrol Car Runs Over Man Near US Open Grounds in Queens
August 23, 2025 – QUEENS, New York:
An NYPD officer driving a marked patrol car struck a man lying in the roadway near the Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Queens on Saturday afternoon, according to police. The complex is currently hosting the US Open tennis tournament.
Authorities said the incident occurred at approximately 4:39 p.m. on United Nations Avenue South. The officer was traveling at about 10 miles per hour when the vehicle ran over the unidentified man, who was on the pavement in the middle of the roadway.
The man was taken by EMS to NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital in Queens, where he was pronounced dead. Police said it was not immediately clear whether the man had been alive before he was struck by the patrol car.
