NYPD Officer Shot by ‘Friendly Fire’ in Car Jacking Confrontation in Whitestone, Queens; Suspect in Custody
August 22, 2025 – QUEENS, NY
An NYPD officer was shot and wounded Friday morning in the Whitestone section of Queens, according to police.
The shooting occurred just before 9 a.m. near the Whitestone Expressway and 22nd Road. Officials said the officer was struck in the leg and suffered a non-life-threatening injury. He was taken to Jamaica Hospital for treatment.
Authorities said the incident began with a call about a possible carjacking. When officers responded, members of the narcotics squad also arrived. A confrontation with a suspect followed, during which the officer was shot.
Police said one person was taken into custody.
