Hit-and-run driver Runs Over German tourists in Manhattan, killing woman and critically injuring husband

September 24 2025 MANHATTAN, New York – A German couple visiting New York City was struck by a minivan in a Midtown hit-and-run on Wednesday afternoon, leaving the wife dead and her husband in critical condition, according to police sources.

The incident happened around 2:40 p.m. at the intersection of Fifth Avenue and East 40th Street. Authorities said the 50-year-old woman died at the scene from her injuries. Her 55-year-old husband was transported to Bellevue Hospital, where he remains in critical condition.

Police said the driver fled the scene in a green minivan, seen with a vanity plate that reads “Times Square”. Officers later located the vehicle near West 38th Street and Eighth Avenue, where the driver was taken into custody.
