“Zuck F*cks Climate” — Activists Arrested After Chalk Protest at Meta’s NYC Office

Multiple climate activists were arrested Thursday morning after staging a protest at Meta’s offices inside Moynihan Train Hall at Penn Station. The activists used chalk to spray messages on the office windows, including “Zuck Fcks Climate” and “We are fcked.”

The demonstration was organized by Extinction Rebellion NYC (XR NYC), a climate activist group. According to a press release from XR NYC, two activists participated in the protest, writing additional messages such as “Zuck Loves Trump,” “Meta Makes Kings,” and “Zuck Fools Climate.” The group stated that the protest was intended to call out Meta’s expansion into artificial intelligence amid what they describe as a global climate and democracy crisis.

In their statement, XR NYC claimed that Meta’s investment in AI and data infrastructure contributes to climate harm due to the energy and water demands of large-scale computing. The group argued that such developments are “actively eroding the basic foundations of truth at a global scale” and contribute to “climate colonialism and authoritarianism.”

XR NYC also criticized Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg and referenced public reports of his past meetings with former President Donald Trump, a $725 million settlement over data privacy violations, and the company’s policy changes around fact-checking. They characterized these actions as part of a broader pattern of “ideological alignment” between Meta leadership and political figures.
