Two Pilots Dead after Plane Collides With Fire Truck on LGA Airport Runway in NYC
March 23 2026 QUEENS, New York –
An Air Canada Express regional jet collided with a Port Authority firefighting vehicle while landing at LaGuardia Airport late Sunday night, killing both pilots and injuring dozens in a catastrophic runway crash that shut down the airport and disrupted travel nationwide.
At least 41 people were taken to hospitals following the collision, including passengers and first responders.
Preliminary information indicates the fire truck was responding to a separate aircraft emergency and had been cleared to cross the runway moments before the landing. Air traffic control audio captured frantic last-second commands to stop before the impact.
Two Port Authority officers aboard the truck suffered serious injuries
