Teen Slashed, Attacked in Lobby of Luxury Upper West Side Building
July 23 2024 MANHATTAN, New York – A 16-year-old boy was slashed in the back late Wednesday night inside the lobby of Waterline Square, a high-end apartment complex on West 61st Street in Manhattan.
It happened just after 10:45 p.m., according to police. The teen was reportedly surrounded and attacked by a group of four young men, who then ran off on foot. No arrests have been made.
The victim was taken to Mount Sinai Morningside in stable condition.
Detectives worked through the night, collecting evidence and dusting for fingerprints in the lobby—where one-bedroom rentals start around $7,500 a month.
Residents say issues with groups of teens in the building aren’t new. “It’s crazy to see this stuff on the sidewalk of my building,” said Rafael Castro, a resident. “Generally living in this building is a great experience. That’s why it’s even more surprising.”
Police say the victim appears to live in the building. The investigation is ongoing.
