“Plate Task Force” Operation Announced by NYC To Combat Fake and Obscured License Plates
The NYPD is teaming up with several other city and state agencies to unveil new law enforcement task force, created to combat difficult to trace vehicles with paper plates, obscured plates and stolen plates or “ghost cars” that are being used to commit serious crimes along with avoiding tolls in New York City.
“Plate Task Force” is the first operation involving the NYPD, MTA, DMV, Sheriff’s Office, Port Authority Police, and the State Police, gathered under a common goal to combat fake license plates.

NYC Mayor Adams said that the new task force has already towed 73 cars this Monday and made 8 arrests.
The press conference was held on the RFK Tri Boro Bridge Tuesday afternoon in NYC with Governor Kathy Hochul, New York City Mayor Eric Adams, New York City Police Department Commissioner Edward A. Caban, New York City Sheriff Anthony Miranda, and Metropolitan Transportation Authority Chair and CEO Janno Lieber all in attendance to announce the multi-agency city-state task force.
