Off-duty NYPD officer has died , after he shot himself in the head.

Off-duty police officer shot himself in the head inside his Queens apartment , early Sunday morning, police sources said.

He was transported to Elmhurst Hospital in critical condition and died a few hours later.

Incident occured at a building on 23rd Street near 31st Avenue in Astoria, Queens, just around 1:50am.

He was assigned to the 73rd Precinct in Brownsville, Brooklyn and had four years on the job.

NY post reports that: “He committed the desperate act while with a mutual friend and his own girlfriend — with whom Catapano had been arguing shortly before the death, the friend told authorities, according to sources.”
