New ICE Detention Center in Newark, Has Mayor Heated
May 06, 2025 NEWARK, New Jersey – On Tuesday Newark Mayor Ras Baraka along with other city officials attempted to gain access to Delaney Hall for inspection of alleged detention facility for immigrants facing deportation, but were denied entry during a tense moment outside.

Mayor Ras Baraka of Newark joined protesters outside the immigrant detention center he says does not have valid permits to operate.

Just the day before Mayor Baraka spoke out against the reopening of a 1,000-bed ICE detention center at Delaney Hall.
A Newark fire official was seen placing two violation citations on the door of the alleged Migrant detention center.










Protesters in attendance could be heard chanting “ICE out of New Jersey” and the Mayor talking with media stationed outside, stated he would return tomorrow as facility workers padlocked the gate shut.
