Holiday “Nostalgia Train” Rides Through New York City

December 02, 2023 MANHATTAN, New York – Holiday style NOSTALGIA train was running through Manhattan F train line on 2nd Avenue station today.

The R1 was the first New York City Subway car built for the Independent Subway System, only 300 cars were manufactured between 1930 and 1931 by the American Car and Foundry Company, nicknamed City Cars.

The first R1s were delivered in 1931, in anticipation for the opening of the Eighth Avenue Line.

MTA started running these trains during the holiday season in December of 2007 and ever since then it has become a loved NYC tradition.
