Federal Immigration Operations Escalate in Minneapolis as Protests, Arrests, and Confrontations Unfold
January 12, 2026 – St Paul / Minneapolis, Minnesota – Federal immigration enforcement operations intensified across Minneapolis and neighboring St. Paul over the weekend, as Border Patrol and ICE agents carried out arrests amid growing protests and public confrontations following a fatal ICE-involved shooting last week.
According to federal law enforcement sources, roughly 1,000 additional U.S. Customs and Border Protection agents were deployed to Minneapolis beginning Friday, adding to approximately 2,000 federal agents previously sent to the area. The surge follows heightened tensions between federal authorities and local communities after a mother of three was killed during an ICE-involved shooting.
In Uptown Minneapolis, Border Patrol agents were seen entering a residence to detain a family identified as Somali. Video shows neighbors confronting federal agents, with bystanders shouting “Go back to Texas!” as the operation unfolded. The detentions prompted visible protests from residents gathered outside the home.
Elsewhere in Minneapolis, video shows Border Patrol agents chasing and detaining a person in a residential area while activists followed a federal convoy, blowing whistles and honking car horns. During the encounter, a protester was pepper-sprayed as agents took a person into custody.
Additional footage shows Border Patrol agents breaking the window of a vehicle believed to be connected to an apparent anti-ICE activist. At least one person was forcibly removed from the car and detained in handcuffs.
In a separate incident in St. Paul, Border Patrol agents were recorded tackling an anti-ICE protester while conducting enforcement activity at a gas station. The arrest occurred in public view as onlookers and journalists documented the scene
Demonstrations continued throughout the Twin Cities, including a large march through Minneapolis led by U.S. Rep. Ilhan Omar. Thousands of protesters took part in the demonstration opposing ICE enforcement actions and the expanded federal presence.
Large protest was held in NYC and other cities, in solidarity with Minneapolis.
On January 7 2026 – MINNEAPOLIS, Minnesota – A 37-year-old woman identified as Renee Nicole Good was fatally shot by an Immigration and Customs Enforcement agent as they were conducting operations in the South Uptown neighborhood of Minneapolis
According to The Department of Homeland Security said the 37-year-old woman “weaponized her vehicle” as a group of people protesting an ICE operation were allegedly blocking the road.
Viral video of the incident is making the rounds online depicting multiple Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents approaching a vehicle operated by Ms. Good before the shooting occurred.
The fatal shooting is now being investigated by the FBI and the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension.
