Deadly Collision in NYC: Car Plows Into Victims at Canal and Broadway

Two people were killed early Saturday morning when a speeding car slammed into a cyclist and pedestrian in Manhattan’s Chinatown.
According to police, the crash happened around 7:30 a.m. at the intersection of Canal Street and Broadway. A blue Chevy Malibu had been traveling at high speed westbound from the Manhattan Bridge when it entered the city streets and struck a male cyclist and a female pedestrian walking on the sidewalk. The vehicle then crashed into a marked but unoccupied NYPD van.
Emergency crews responded quickly, but both victims were pronounced dead at the scene.
Video from the aftermath shows a field of debris, a shattered windshield, and the front of the Malibu crumpled. The NYPD van was also heavily damaged.
Authorities are continuing to investigate what led to the high-speed collision in the busy morning hours. No information has been released yet regarding the driver’s identity or any charges.
