29-Year-Old Killed in Wrong Way Collision on Gowanus Expressway in Brooklyn

October 14, 2022 – Brooklyn, New York: A wrong-way driver on the Gowanus Expressway causes deadly crash killing one person early Friday morning in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn.

According to police, just before 2:30am, a 23-year-old wrong way driver struck a guard rail near the Fort Hamilton Parkway ramp seriously injuring a 29-year-old passenger.

The passenger was rushed to NYU Langone Hospital in Brooklyn where they were pronounced dead, cops said.

The 20-year-old wrong way driver was taken into police custody as detectives investigating incident work to determine if drugs or alcohol played a roll in the deadly crash.

The Gowanus Expressway eastbound ramp to Fort Hamilton Parkway was shutdown along with the 86th Street on-ramp to the Gowanus Expressway.

Motorists should expect delays and take alternate routes due to a collision investigation. The nearest open eastbound exit is located at 65th Street.
