Suspect ARRESTED After Turkish Counsulat Windows SMASHED with CROWBAR on Upper East Side

May 26, 2023 MANHATTAN, New York – 29-year-old Recep Akbiyik was arrested after allegedly smashing all the windows at Turkish Counsulat with a hammer in NYC.

Recep Akbiyik is charged with Attempted Burglary, Criminal Possession of a Weapon, Terroristic Threats, Criminal Mischief and menacing.

On May 22nd, windows at Turkish Counsulat were all smashed up with a crowbar early Monday morning, as Turkish elections continue.

Police say that one man smashed all the windows and made threats at security at UN Plaza on 1st Avenue and E 46th street.

The suspect took a large crowbar and struck numerous windows, causing them to shatter, officials said.

There were no injuries reported as a result of this incident.
