Portland FROG Pepper-Balled – Massive Tear Gas Deployed – Judge Blocks Oregon National Guard
October 4 2025 PORTLAND, Oregon – Federal Agents deployed pepper balls and tear gas outside the Portland ICE Detention Center as protesters gathered for another night of demonstrations. Videos show ICE agents advancing from the facility, firing pepper balls and pushing protesters off the roadway.
In one clip, a protester dressed in a large green frog costume—known among local demonstrators as “Portland Frog”—was first seen returning to the protest after “getting pepper sprayed in the ass.” Later in the night, the same costumed protester was hit again, this time with pepper balls, as agents cleared the street during a nightly shift change.
Multiple videos from the scene captured agents firing pepper balls at close range, mostly aimed at the ground and protesters’ feet, until later when several shots appeared to be directed higher. Footage also shows agents dragging protesters away and deploying smoke bombs and tear gas as they retreated after clearing the gates and street.
Footage also shows a group of federal agents standing on the roof of the ICE facility. Reporters on scene described one of them as appearing to act in a sniper position while monitoring the crowd below.
Earlier in the evening, protesters danced to “YMCA” in front of the facility and held the street before officers advanced, deploying gas and crowd-control munitions. Several arrests were made as agents cleared the road
Later that night, a federal judge issued an order blocking the Trump administration’s plan to deploy National Guard and active-duty military to Portland. The ruling stated that the government had not demonstrated a sufficient threat to justify military intervention and warned that such deployment could escalate tensions.
