NYPD Officers Shoot Man After Cleaver Attack on 4 Young Female Family Members in Brooklyn 

April 06, 2025 BROOKLYN, New York – A man with a history of mental illness was suspected of stabbing four young children before being shot by New York City police officers on Sunday morning in Brooklyn. 

Officers were dispatched to a home in Bensonhurst, Brooklyn after an 11–year-old girl made a call for help to 911 during an attack where four juvenile girls were stabbed and slashed by a relative on Sunday morning, cops said.

The 11-year-old girl reported to 911 that she and her siblings, all females, ages eight to 16, had been stabbed by their uncle at the family home.

Upon arrival, officers made their way inside a Bensonhurst home near 17th Ave & 84th St, where they encountered the 49-year-old suspected attacker covered in blood and armed with a meat cleaver.

The suspect allegedly made advancing movements towards officers while wielding a sharp cutting instrument reportedly used to stab four children at the home.

According to police officials, two officers gave the suspect multiple commands to drop the cutting tool before firing at least seven rounds from their service weapons, striking the individual multiple times.

The pre teen and teen girls were rushed by EMS to an area hospital with serious stab wounds and two reportedly in critical condition. The suspect was also taken to an area hospital for further treatment but was pronounced dead. 

A meat cleaver covered in blood splatter was recovered by police at the scene. Detectives are working to determine a motive as the deadly incident is still under investigation.
