NYC Subway Slashing Investigated as Possible Hate Crime
March 1st, 2024 – Manhattan, New York – NYPD investigation is underway for a possible hate crime after a Friday evening subway slashing occurred in NYC.
According to police, a 27-year-old man was approached on a northbound A train by an unknown individual who allegedly made anti LGBTQ+ remarks, as it was arriving at Penn Station.
A verbal dispute turned violent when the suspect allegedly pulled out a boxcutter and slashed the victim on his left hand. The injured man and friend exited the train at 34th Street Penn Station to alert nearby officers about the transit assault just after 11 p.m. on Friday, police said.

After EMS patched up the victims wound inside of the Transit District 1 police station he was then transported to Bellevue Hospital in stable condition.

No arrests have been made in the assault reported at Penn Station as police are looking for a black male suspect who is seen in a newly released photo by NYPD.

The possible anti gay attack in transit comes just days after a 59-year-old MTA worker was violently slashed in the neck during a separate incident.
While conducting an A train, the long time transit employee was attacked after leaning his head out the train window during a stop at the Rockaway Avenue A/C station in the Bedford Stuyvesant neighborhood around 4 a.m., the NYPD said.
No arrests have been made for the unprovoked attack as of Sunday evening.
