Mother charged with Murder after Death of 9-year-old Child

May 16 2022 Brooklyn, New York – A mother charged with Murder after 9-year-old child’s death in Brooklyn yesterday, according to officials.

Shemene Cato, 48 year old female was charged with – Murder, Manslaughter, Assault, Endangering the Welfare of a Child, Criminal Possession of a Weapon, police said.

Child suffered multiple blunt force trauma, medical examiner determined that it lead to her death. Nbc New York reported that neighbors near the home off Lincoln Place, where the girl was found, said they smelled a foul odor.

Police arrived to the Crown Heights home around 1 p.m. Sunday. Officials said mother called 911 in the morning and was taken away for questioning. She was placed under arrest 24 hours later.

Preliminary report says that child was found unresponsive and had trauma to her body.
