MANHATTAN: 2 Men Attacked, Columbia University Student Killed in Random Stabbing

December 02, 2021 Manhattan, New York – Columbia University Graduate student, Davide Giri, 30, was viciously killed Thursday evening and a 27-year-old Italian tourist was injured in two separate stabbings that occurred in the Morningside Heights neighborhood of Manhattan, by suspected gang member Vincent Pinkney.

According to police, around 11 p.m., in separate attacks, two men, a 30-year-old and a 27-year-old, were both stabbed in the torso, leaving the 30-year-old victim in critical condition, police said.

Vincent Pinkney, of Manhattan, was identified by a witness as the suspect who in separate incidents carried out the horrific attacks on the unsuspecting Columbia student and Italian tourist.

The first attack on the Columbia student occurred at the intersection of Amsterdam Avenue and 123rd Street, near Morningside Park. Shortly after, police say the same male suspect then stabbed the Italian tourist at the intersection at Morningside Drive and West 110th Street.

The suspect fled the scene after the second attack and responding officers from the 26th precinct were able to make an arrest after a third potential victim who was not injured, identified Pinkney to police as the alleged assailant that threatened him with a knife near Central Park not long after the second attack, police said.

According to NYPD officials, the 27-year-old Italian tourist is in stable condition and expected to survive.

Both men were transported by EMS to the same hospital, however Giri, the 30-year-old phd candidate, sustained life threatening injuries and was pronounced dead at Mount Sinai-Saint Luke’s Hospital.

The investigation into the attacks is ongoing.
