Man Arrested After Attempted Abduction of 6-Year-Old Boy in Coney Island

July 7, 2025 | Brooklyn, NY – A man was arrested after allegedly attempting to abduct a 6-year-old boy from a sidewalk in Coney Island on Sunday night, police said.

According to officials, the incident occurred shortly before 10:00 p.m. near the intersection of Surf Avenue and Stillwell Avenue. A Brooklyn family reported that a stranger suddenly grabbed their child and began running. As the boy’s mother chased after them, witnesses say the suspect threw the child to the ground and fled the scene.

Police and emergency responders arrived on site shortly after and transported the injured child to NYC Health + Hospitals/Coney Island. The boy is reported to be in stable condition.

Officers arrested a male suspect in connection with the assault. As of Monday morning, charges against him are still pending.
