Hundreds Protest Migrant Housing Center at Former St. John Villa Academy – STATEN ISLAND

August 23, 2023 Staten Island, New York – Hundreds of neighborhood residents and local activists gathered to protest a new 300 bed migrant housing center opening at the former St. John Villa Academy on Staten Island.

Community members voiced concerns about the shelter at 57 Cleveland Pl, with several schools in close proximity, in the mostly residential area.

Some rally participants held signs that read “Close the border” and a “No Fucking Way” banner was seen in front of a home near the protest.
