Brad Lander, NYC Mayoral Candidate, Arrested by ICE at Federal Court
June 17, 2025 – Manhattan, NY – New York City Comptroller and mayoral candidate Brad Lander was arrested Tuesday morning by ICE agents inside the federal immigration court at 26 Federal Plaza.
Lander was at the courthouse to support immigrants attending hearings. As he walked arm-in-arm with a man whose case had just been dismissed pending appeal, masked agents moved in and arrested Lander, accusing him of obstruction. Video shows Lander calmly resisting, stating, “I’m not obstructing… You don’t have the authority to arrest U.S. citizens asking for a judicial warrant.”
His campaign says Lander was there in solidarity with immigrants and was peacefully escorting someone out of the building when he was detained. ICE has not released an official statement.
