FLAG BURNING IN THE PARK, DIE-IN AT TRUMP TOWER: HOW NEW YORK PROTESTERS MARKED JULY 4th

July 4th 2025 MANHATTAN, NEW YORK – At 12 p.m. about 20 protesters assembled by the fountain in the NYC Washington Square Park for the “F**k the 4th” protest that advertised to “burn the flags”.

Two protesters doused and torched a large American flag while others drummed and chanted “F* the 4th!” and “We need a new flag!”

After roughly 15 minutes the group stepped off, drums still pounding, and marched up 7th Avenue toward Times Square,  shouting “Cuomo lies, people die!” and “We reject Eric Adams!”.

At 5:15 p.m., right about when President Trump signed his “Big Beautiful Bill”, about 40 protesters staged a two-minute “die-in” on the sidewalk outside Trump Tower.

Participants lay prone holding tombstone-shaped placards such as “BLACK BAGGED BY ICE” and “NO SNAP • NO CLEAN WATER.”

The action coincided with President Trump’s signing of the “Big Beautiful Bill,” which critics say cuts social programs and boosts immigration enforcement.

Protesters dressed in black gathered at dawn outside the Federal Courthouse at 40 Foley Square, staging a one-hour demonstration in mourning and resistance. The group circled in front of the courthouse steps, screaming and standing in silence to reject what organizers called “the spectacle of sentimental patriotism and deadly militarism.” The action, held on the morning of Independence Day, called on participants to “meet the dawn in contemplation and resistance.”
