6-Year-Old Killed, Five Injured, 18-year-old Charged with DWI Following Turnpike Crash In West Hempstead

August 7 2023 NASSAU, New York – a 6-year-old girl has died and five people were injured in West Hempstead crash, an 18-year-old driver was arrested on a DWI and Manslaughter charge.

Incident happened around 2:20 a.m. near Hempstead Turnpike and Westminster Road on Long Island when a 2005 Nissan SUV was traveling at a high rate of speed eastbound in Hempstead Turnpike, colliding with a parked car, police say.

The 26-year-old mother of the baby killed was injured by debris from crash. Her 5-year-old suffered multiple internal injuries and is in stable condition. Their cousin, a 17-year-old female also sustained injuries from debris, officials said.

The 18-year-old suspect driver is now facing multiple charges including manslaughter in the second degree, DWI and operating without a license, police said.
