3-year-old Girl Shot by Stray Bullet, Suspect Dead after Stand Off on Long Island

August 22 2023 RIDGE, Long Island – A three-year-old girl is recovering in the hospital after she was shot during a standoff between a gunman and police in Suffolk county.

Officials say police went to an apartment in Ridge, toinvestigate a murder of a woman in Central Islip, that happened back in June.

Officials say when conversation with suspect’s friend took a violent turn, detectives asked everyone, including childrenin the apartment, to come outside. Suspect, Gary Jones at that time shot at the detectives, with one shot going through the wall of neighbor’s apartment, hitting 3-year-old girl, officials said.

Police held a stand off for hours with the suspect, finally finding that he died from self inflicted gunshot wound inside the home.
