29-Year-Old Jersey City Man Assaulted by Hammer Wielding Suspect in Unprovoked Attack

August 07, 2022 | JERSEY CITY, NY: Police are on the hunt for a hammer wielding suspect who struck a man in the head during an unprovoked attack in Jersey City late Sunday evening. The aggravated assault victim sustained injuries considered to be non life threatening during the attack.

According to police, on Sunday evening, a 29-year-old man was was viciously attacked with a hammer while crossing the street in Journal Square. The male attack victim was left bleeding heavily from his head and transported by EMS to a nearby hospital. Law enforcement officials say that 29-year-old assault victim is expected to survive his injuries.

At approximately 12:15am Jersey City PD responded to reports of a person wounded and bleeding profusely from the head near Journal Square. Upon arrival, officers located the injured person for EMS transport.

Police canvassed the area for suspects along with searching a nearby parking structure but Jersey City Police were not able to locate anyone involved in the violent attack.

At this time the violent attack is still under investigation and remains ongoing.
